Relapse Prevention

Relapse is a common term in many addiction treatment programs. It is when a recovering substance dependent or alcoholic reverts back into the old disintegrating and unnecessary use and consumption of drugs and alcohol. This is particularly detrimental to the health and is a barrier to optimum rehabilitation and recovery of patients in drug rehab clinics. Hence the strong need for relapse prevention.

Relapse prevention is given emphasis not only in California drug rehab centers, but even on outpatient drug rehabs. Without it, drug rehabilitation and treatment is considered incomplete.

Detox treatment does not completely free the drug and alcohol addicts from the hazards of addiction. In fact, it is just the start of recovery yet. There are many things to after getting out of rehab and relapse prevention is just one of it. While the person is cleaned from all the residues of chemicals and alcohol within his body during the detox treatment, the craving is removed from the mind of the person to overcome the urge for the substance.
